Since Republicans are so fond of saying that the founding fathers knew best, and that we can't touch their second amendment right to keep and bear arms, I think I have a solution that fits both idiotic ideas.
Everybody who wants one can have a flintlock. Pistol or rifle, or both, it's their choice. That's what the founding fathers had, and it is certainly enough to protect someone from an intruder.
You cannot say we are taking away your right to keep and bear arms, but we can say that the first time someone tries to use that gun in a mass shooting, they are going to have a total of two victims. The one they shot, and themselves, when everyone else stomps them to death while they are reloading.
